I spent 11 years at TDK-Lambda, starting on the assembly line in 2010 and working my way up to DVT electronics technician. I'd already started a Computing degree through the Open University in my own time. I paused it to complete the electronics qualifications that came with the technician role: a BTEC and an HNC.
My principal engineer knew about the programming and brought me onto the automated test system he'd started. I took over development and spent six years building it into the framework the department still runs on, moving into a DVT automation engineer role along the way.
I picked the OU degree back up after finishing the HNC and graduated with First Class Honours in 2025, fifteen years after starting. I now work freelance across whatever stack the project demands: Python, Dart/Flutter, and TypeScript with React, Svelte, or Next.js.
